What is Energy?
ENERGY is the ability to do work. Organisms, like yourself, need energy to do every little thing; run, move, talk, sing, breath, think, live. Forms of energy include light, heat, mechanical, electrical, and chemical.
Energy Carriers are organic compounds that carry energy from 1 chemical reaction to another. Electrons store this energy.
The main source of energy is the sun. The energy cycle includes two main processes, photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Photosythesis produces the reactants for cellular respiration, and cellular respiration produces the reactants for photosynthesis.
Review Terms
  • Light: Light is made up of many colors, each color contains different amount of energy.
  • Pigment: Pigments are any material that absorbs light and reflects the opposite color. Pigments are labeled as the color they reflect ( i.e. your eye pigment is blue, if you have blue eyes)
  • Chlorophyl: Chlorophyl is the main pigment in plants. It reflects green, and absorbs blues and reds.
